Remember the cartoon show, The Jetsons? As far fetched as the once-popular children’s show was, some experts in the field of senior care think that in the future, senior care might operate in a similar way. Sounds crazy, right?
Well, it’s already starting to happen, in a way.
For starters, technology plays a bigger role in senior care than it ever has before. Apps are making a big impact in the world of care, ranging from better communication, to virtual doctor’s visits, to automated safety systems to alert others when an accident takes place. An app cannot provide care for someone, but the right collection of apps can help make care a lot easier to administer. This has already started to occur, and it’s only going to become easier and more accessible in the next few years.
Better community planning will also have an impact on the world of senior care. We have already seen this in other countries, especially within Europe. Many elderly individuals in the U.S. live in isolation, unfortunately. Technology can help bridge the distance between family members and allow loved ones to communicate with ease through things like Skype and Facetime, but that’s not the same as family gathering together in purpose. When communities are grouped in a way that younger people are able and willing to care for older individuals, much of that isolation disappears. This might not replace the need for professional caregivers or in-home care, but it does address the basic human need for companionship.
These things are not well-developed yet, and they are not a firm part of our society. Until they are, we must rely on the already established care system within our society. If you have a loved one currently in need of senior care, finding a care service that employs reputable caregivers will be a big benefit to you. Companies like Paradise In-Home Care can help point you in the right direction. Do we expect that robots and conveyor belts will be installed in every house to cater to our every needs? That’s unlikely, at least in the foreseeable future. But a lot of the benefits that these things provided in the old cartoon show will be accomplished through improved technology. Self driving cars are already a reality, and companies like Google are looking to help treat diabetes through innovative methods such as contact lenses. Technology has already made huge advances. It’s impossible to know exactly what the future holds, and although it’s really doubtful that we will be living in a Jetson’s type society, we should expect there to be changes. As we plan for the care of our elderly loved ones, we need to know that there will be changes. We can’t predict what those changes will be, but by looking at recent developments in the world of care, we can get a better idea.
